This is the ultimate challenge for true explorers. While most visitors stay in the valley, we take you to the very top. Conquering the 1700m Pu Luong Peak is a 3-day journey through primary rainforests, bamboo groves, and ancient “Angel Maple” forests. You’ll camp under the stars, learn forest survival skills from our local Thai porters, and wake up above a sea of clouds. This is raw, authentic adventure at its best.

07:00: Your adventure begins with a private transfer from the Hanoi Old Quarter. As we leave the city, our guide provides a briefing on the terrain and the safety protocols for the high-altitude trek ahead.
11:30: We arrive at the edge of the reserve for a hearty “hunter’s lunch” featuring mountain-grown ingredients.
To get your “trail legs” ready, we start with a moderate trek through the villages of Uoi and Lan Ngoai. This isn’t just a walk; it’s an introduction to the landscape. We’ll cross terraced fields and see the ancient water wheels that power the valley’s life. We trek deep into the forest to reach the three-tiered Hieu Waterfall. Use this time to swim in the limestone pools and refresh your muscles. This is our last “soft” activity before we head into the high forest.
We spend our first night in a traditional Thai stilt house by 19:00. Here, we enjoy a final hot meal and a final equipment check with our porters before the big ascent.
07:00: After a high-energy breakfast, we pack our expedition gear and enter the primary Fokienii forest. This is the most challenging and beautiful part of the trek. The air turns cool and crisp as the canopy thickens.
We navigate two mountain streams, using the same paths used by ethnic hunters for centuries. Our guides will point out rare medicinal plants and the tracks of local wildlife.
12:00: We reach the summit landmark. Stand at 1700 meters above sea level and take in the massive panoramic views. On a clear day, the peaks of Quan Hoa and the distant ridges of Laos are visible. This is where you’ll find the Three-Winged Angel Maple tree, ancient giants that look like they belong in a fantasy novel.
No cold sandwiches here. Our porters build a controlled fire to cook “Com Lam” (bamboo-tube rice) and grilled forest chicken by 13:00. Learning how to eat from bamboo is part of the expert experience. We descend slightly to a protected cave near a mountain stream to set up our wilderness camp. You’ll help collect firewood and prepare the campsite for a night of true adventure.
19:00: As the temperature drops, we gather around the fire for a communal dinner. This is the time for storytelling, “Werewolf” games, and enjoying the absolute silence of the high mountains.
05:00: Wake up before the sun. We’ll brew fresh coffee using bamboo tubes over the morning embers. Witness the “Sea of Clouds” as the sun rises, turning the white mist below into a glowing ocean of orange and gold.
We strike camp and begin our journey down through a different route-the Giant Bamboo Forest. We emerge onto a massive grassy plateau that offers the best “flycam” style views of the entire Pu Luong valley.
11:30: We return to the village for a final celebratory feast of local specialties. You’ll have time for a quick shower and a change of clothes to celebrate your successful summit.
13:30 – 19:00: Our vehicle takes us back to Hanoi, arriving at your hotel by early evening with a camera full of photos and a heart full of stories.

It is authentic wild camping. We use high-quality tents, but there are no toilets or showers at the 1700m camp. We use a mountain stream for washing and follow strict "Leave No Trace" principles to protect the forest.
This trek is rated "Challenging." If you are active and have good endurance, you can do it, but be prepared for steep inclines and uneven terrain. Our porters carry the heavy camp gear, but you should still be comfortable carrying your own daypack.
October to March is the prime "Cloud Hunting" season. The air is cooler and the moisture in the valleys creates that perfect white ocean effect at sunrise.
We provide plenty of bottled water, but our guides also know how to safely boil stream water if needed. We don't recommend drinking raw stream water without the guide's approval.
You should leave your main suitcases at your hotel in Hanoi or at our base in the Pu Luong valley. You only need a 20-30L backpack for the 2-day climb.
